Format: STL

Lucifer, also known as Samael Morningstar, is a fictional character appearing in comic books published by DC Comics. He was created by writer Neil Gaiman and artist Sam Kieth and first appeared in “The Sandman” Vol. 2 #4 in 1989. Later, he became the central character of his own ongoing comic series titled “Lucifer,” written by Mike Carey.

In DC Comics’ mythology, Lucifer Morningstar is based on the character from various religious texts and literature, particularly the biblical figure of Lucifer, who is traditionally associated with the Devil or Satan. However, the portrayal of Lucifer in the comic book series “The Sandman” and “Lucifer” significantly deviates from traditional religious interpretations.

In the comic book series, Lucifer is depicted as the ruler of Hell, who grows tired of his role and decides to abandon his kingdom, abdicating the throne of Hell. He retires to Earth and opens a piano bar in Los Angeles called “Lux.” As the series progresses, Lucifer becomes involved in various cosmic and metaphysical conflicts, dealing with themes of free will, fate, and the nature of existence.

Lucifer is characterized as a complex and philosophical being with a deep sense of pride and rebellion against the divine order. He is intelligent, charismatic, and often struggles with existential questions and moral dilemmas. Despite his demonic origins, he is depicted as a morally ambiguous character who sometimes acts as a protagonist and other times as an anti-hero.

The “Lucifer” comic series has been critically acclaimed for its intricate storytelling, thought-provoking themes, and exploration of complex philosophical ideas. It presents a unique and imaginative take on the character of Lucifer, distinct from traditional religious portrayals.

It’s worth noting that “Lucifer” has also been adapted into other media, including a TV series of the same name that aired from 2016 to 2021. In the TV adaptation, Lucifer is portrayed by actor Tom Ellis, and the series takes inspiration from the comic but diverges in its own narrative direction.
