Important Characters / The Cast
- Jung Ho-yeon stars as Kang Sae-byeok. She is what South Koreans would describe as a “northern refuge” or a “new settler.” Her backstory reveals that she defected from the workers’ paradise itself, North Korea.
- Lee Jung-jae stars as Seong Gi-hun. Our protagonist. A down-on-his-luck chauffeur, serial gambler, owes a ton of money to the mafia. To top it all off, he is a fortysomething that still lives with his mom. Relatable.
- Lee Yoo-mi stars as Ji-yeong. An emotionless, mysterious young woman with a secret. Her stoic demeanor seems to stem from a traumatic event in her past.
- Wi Ha-joon stars as Hwang Jun-ho. He’s a cop and Squid Game is good enough of a show to make you cheer for a cop.
