PixelAlchemy v1.0.1 for Blender
Blender Compositor Assets (Dithering & ASCII)
PixelAlchemy is a small set of custom Blender Compositor Assets I put together while experimenting with the new Blender 5.0 system. What started as a simple idea—making clean, reusable dithering and ASCII filters—slowly turned into a little toolkit for adding retro character and stylized detail to renders. You can drop the assets into your project in just a couple of clicks and immediately start playing around with them.
What Can You Do with PixelAlchemy?
Dithering
This was the first asset I built. I mixed several Bayer dithering patterns, tweaked the behavior a bit, and wrapped the whole thing into an easy-to-use setup with a few helpful color controls.
Great if you want a retro look, something slightly stylized, or just a bit of texture that gives your image more personality.
Features:
Multiple Bayer matrix variations
Clean procedural patterns
Threshold, softness, and color depth controls
ASCII
The second asset grew out of pure curiosity—I’ve always loved how simple shapes can turn into shading when arranged the right way. This filter takes your image and converts it into a text-based representation using 16 brightness levels matched to a small character set. It’s surprisingly fun to tweak.
Features:
Built-in ASCII and halftone atlases
Support for a custom 16-character atlas
Adjustable density, scale, and brightness mapping
You can make the result clean and minimal or push it into a more grainy, expressive direction.
