Can Spider-Man: No Way Home Become the Greatest Spider-Man Movie?

Look, despite what our website is all about, we enjoy speculation and movie talk as much as the next guy. In this post, we are going to talk about the upcoming smash hit, the best movie of this winter… Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021)!

In many ways, this movie is very important for the MCU. It will help establish the tone for Phase Four. Honestly, this specific Phase got off to a pretty rocky start with the hilariously underwhelming Black Widow (2021) and polarizing Eternals (2021). Right now, it’s pretty all up to Spider-Man to turn things around.

Things That Can Make Spider-Man: No Way Home Great

1. Confirmed Returning Characters. We’re not talking about characters from the MCU such as Dr. Strange. We’re talking about Electro, Doctor Octopus, Green Goblin, and Sandman. We don’t really care about Lizard because he’s mostly lame AF.
2. Unconfirmed but Confirmed Returning Characters. Look, there’s just no way you wouldn’t get to see Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire. Haven’t you heard about the invisible punch that Lizard got in the trailer?
3. Great CGI. Marvel movies are very reliable when it comes to solid-looking CGI. Since Dr. Strange is involved, there are going to be literal sparks flying all over the place. Portals. Digital de-aging of Alfred Molina. Exciting set-pieces. You know how it usually goes.
4. Willem Dafoe. You can pretty much count on him to steal the show once again. His return is probably the most exciting thing about the first trailer.
5. Great Source Material. Based on what little we have seen, it borrows heavily from one of the most well-received Spider-Man comic books – One More Day. Come to think of it, even the titles sound similar! Anyway, if our guess is correct, then this story will give Tom Holland a great opportunity to flex his acting muscles. He will get to show true desperation and various other emotions we haven’t really seen from him.
6. Surprise Cameos. There are just so many possibilities here – Fantastic Four, X-Men, Jared Leto the Vampire, Venom, the list goes on and on. This can totally change the landscape of the MCU in more ways than one!

Things That Can Make Spider-Man: No Way Home Terrible

1. Superhero Fatigue. It’s very real. Sure, people are probably excited to see a huge blockbuster film in theaters, but not everyone is ready to marinate in pre-quarantine movie-going experience nostalgia for over two hours.
2. Bloated Runtime. Yeah… There’s just no way this movie is going to be a trim 01:40. We are going to guess that this movie is going to be an hour or hour-and-a-half longer. Some might say that it’s a good thing because ALL characters will probably get sufficient screen time, but that’s not a very appealing tradeoff when you’re an adult with adult responsibilities.
3. Too Many Characters. This is the big problem. It’s like the problem with The Avengers. If there were just two characters returning, then it would have been a damn good movie, but here you have so many people back… If done incorrectly, this movie can be straight-up dizzying.
4. Zendaya. Here’s a controversial opinion for ya – she’s very bland in every single role (despite being in EVERY MOVIE…. remember her in Dune?). She was picked as the next big thing, but we don’t see the appeal. She’s not exactly devoid of any charisma, but in our opinion, she’s over-pushed and overexposed at best and insufferably bland at worst.
5. Expectations Are Too High. At this point, no movie is going to live up to the expectations that some fans have! Think about how much you and your friends have hyped up big releases in the past. Remember all the disappointments. Yeah.
6. Subpar Acting. Yeah, we’re not too sure about some of the people involved in this one.

 

Conclusion

We don’t know much as of right now, but if our predictions are correct, this one will become the highest-grossing Spider-Man movie of all time. It might not become the most critically acclaimed one, but it will be exceedingly popular, there’s just no doubt about it. We hate to resort to cliches, but only time will tell what’s going to happen with this superhero mega-release.

While we’re all stuck here waiting for 12/17/2021, there’s no reason for you not to explore the expanded canon on your own. After all, the multiverse is one of the main themes of this movie.
