Look, we’re not saying that Denis Villeneuve is a better director than David Lynch (because he clearly isn’t) or that Timothée Chalamet is a better actor than Kyle MacLachlan (because he clearly isn’t), but we honestly believe that the 2021 version of Dune is the best adaptation thus far. Hear us out on this, okay?

Even if it’s too self-serious and bleak, it gets almost all the stuff from the books right. It’s a huge accomplishment in and of itself. Also, we’re way past the point when it needs to be acknowledged that Herbert’s space epic was also self-serious and bleak. In our humble opinion, the fans of the original novel can finally check out the adaptation that stays faithful to the source material. Is that a good thing or a bad thing? It depends on the way you approach art in general. You could call this a nuanced adaptation that seeks to do more with less, or you could call it a film that tries to spit in the face of every Dune adaptation before it.

Lynch’s Dune was ridiculous and genuinely fun to watch. Alejandro Jodorowsky’s unreleased Dune movie was an artistic fever dream. Villeneuve’s Dune is a truly epic blockbuster with tons and tons of world-building and genuinely thrilling set-pieces. Come to think of it, there really is a Dune for every taste!

Ambitious and Elegant Movie with a Great Cast and a Great Score

Timothée Chalamet, Oscar Isaac, Rebecca Ferguson, Josh Brolin, Jason Momoa, Zendaya… The cast for this movie was pretty damn stacked and that was one of the first things that made people realize that Villeneuve’s Dune is the real deal! Everyone gave a great performance aside from (and this is totally subjective) Stellan Skarsgård who failed to deliver a performance that compared to Kenneth McMillan’s (even though we are genuinely happy that this time around Baron Harkonnen wasn’t a vaguely homophobic caricature).

Fittingly enough, Hans Zimmer also brought his A-game when it came to the score. The music felt otherworldly, ancient, epic, and unrefined. Let’s not forget that music is very important when it comes to setting the mood.

Possible Sequels?

There are two officially greenlit sequels in the works as of right now. With the tentative release date of October 20, 2023, Dune: Part Two is bound to become both a critical and commercial success. If everyone is still on board, then we can at least hope that the third part will eventually get into production. With the on-going pandemic and the fact that Dune underperformed in certain countries, there’s no telling if there will ever be a third movie, but the second one is definitely in the works. The principal photography is scheduled to begin on July 18 the next year.

What to Do If You’re Dying for More Dune?

Enjoyed the world of Denis Villeneuve’s Dune? Want more? As luck would have it, we have more than a few thrilling options to offer!

First, there’s Dune: the Graphic Novel. It’s the definitive comic book adaptation of Herbert’s masterpiece… as envisioned by his son, Brian Herbert. The graphic novel trims all the fat from the oftentimes bloated original.

Also, Brian will continue the story of Dune based on his father’s unpublished journals. The Boom-published comic books can be downloaded on our website if you were to type the word “DUNE” into the search box. Or you can just use this link right HERE, if you’re too lazy to do that.

In addition to the graphic novels and several other limited-edition printed materials, we will also give you the opportunity to download Dune 3D models and STL files for 3D printers. We are not exactly sure what kind of assets there will be released for download, though. Be it terrifyingly detailed sandworm figurines or small statues with Timothée Chalamet’s likeness, we will provide you with an opportunity to download it all without having to create an account.

Is It Actually Free to Download Dune Content from Our Site?

Yeah, it is! You can download all the Dune graphic novels, 3D models, and assets for free and without having to create an account on our website. Each and every single post on our site provides you with links to 3rd party sources. Those 3rd-party sources are hosting sites that allow you to download even the largest files with almost no hassle.

Your experience can (and WILL) differ based on the fact that some of the hosting service sites give preferential treatment to paying customers, but that’s something that just sort of comes with the territory. Folks that aren’t broke will also have a better time, no matter what they are doing. If you want to download all the files instantaneously and without having to wait for the download speed to reach its maximum limit, you should definitely consider purchasing a premium membership for any of the sites we link to. It’s a wise decision… especially when you take into consideration the fact that your access to our ever-growing library will remain 100% free until the end of days (and that’s a promise!).
